Dear Friends,
What an exhausting and exhilarating four months it has been. While we all worked overtime hoping for a different outcome, I am proud of the campaign we ran and confident that we framed the debate around progressive values.
I congratulate Nik on running a tireless and effective campaign. His passion for the City of Milwaukee is evident.
It is important to remember that in many ways we came into this race as the underdog. An openly gay candidate with a solid progressive record faces an uphill challenge, even in the 3rd district. Moreover, my opponent had several months’ head start in the campaign. In every ward that I was able to spend significant time, we came out ahead. I am confident that if we’d had more time, we could have brought our progressive message to more voters.
I want to thank the residents of this district for making the East Side and Riverwest such tremendous communities. I have loved this area since I moved here almost 15 years ago. Traveling the district over the past four months and speaking to so many residents only deepened my appreciation for what we have.
Finally, I want to thank all the individuals – family, friends, neighbors, leaders – who donated time and money and moral support and the force of their convictions to this campaign. I am proud to have been associated with an amazing list of individuals and organizations, proud of what we accomplished, and very thankful for your efforts. The fight continues and you know I will still be a part of it.
Sincerely,
Patrick
