Protecting the Environment
Every day I walk our dogs, Pork Chop and Comet, by the River, so I have a personal commitment to restoring the River and ensuring public access, which is why I have been a long-time supporter of the River Overlay District. As your representative on the Common Council, I will fully enforce the two-year development guidelines already enacted by the Milwaukee Common Council and push for comprehensive permanent protections.

Understandably, some people fear that these guidelines could be circumvented through behind-the-scenes pressure at City Hall. I will ensure that no development gets the green light unless it adheres to these guidelines. Future development decisions should take protection of the river, while maximizing public use and enjoyment, as a basic principle.

Due to our location, Milwaukee's elected officials have a mandate to act as stewards of the Great Lakes region. For example, selling water to neighboring communities could have a potentially devastating environmental impact, which ultimately corrodes Milwaukee's economic base while also diminishing our quality of life. Selling water to neighboring communities encourages sprawl and contributes to existing trends toward unsustainable development.
